Increasingly stringent agricultural waste restrictions mean that all farm plastics - including netwrap and film - must be disposed of in a managed and approved way to be recycled, bringing substantial costs and the risk of financial penalties for non-compliance.
“Advances in productivity and preservation of silage over
the last half century have achieved annual milk yield increases
from 2,870 litres to 7,400 litres per dairy cow. When you
consider the huge quantity of plastic used in the making of
silage every year, dairy farmers have a disposal problem,"
explains Graham Robson, European Technical Manager of Tama UAT
Ltd.
“In the 1950s, milk yields came from grazing and from
labour-intensive hay bales of maybe 25kg each. Now, advances in
baler technology mean that farmers can produce 900kg round silage
bales to provide perfectly-balanced feed to maintain milk quality
and herd productivity".
“Tama Marathon™ 4200m netwrap with Bale+™ technology - and
its OEM brand equivalents - is 40% longer than standard net. This
means savings in roll changing down-time and less packaging to
dispose of too. After all, the end user needs length of net, not
weight of plastic, to achieve his aim.”
